Keep copies somewhere else, I've been doing this since the game lost me an entire planet+colony and almost the whole character due to a few crashes. One single crash is enough to corrupt something. So you might as well not count on luck to save your files. You can't access previous save files, there's no load option. If ANYTHING happens to your game, the in game save system will not prevent anything from being corrupted, and the save files are so shitty if you login 3 times after something went wrong, congratulations, you just lost your non-corrupted save. You only need to save the folder named storage. Every time you do something important, save&quit the game, and manually copy the folder into somewhere else. But you should save the folder of the game manually.
